Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biomedical Scientist specializing in Microbiology to join our dynamic laboratory team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in diagnosing and researching infectious diseases, ensuring high standards of laboratory practice, and contributing to the development of innovative diagnostic methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory Testing and Analysis:

    • Perform routine and specialized microbiological tests on a variety of clinical samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissue, and other bodily fluids).
    • Identify and classify microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
    • Interpret and report test results accurately and promptly to clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Quality Assurance:

    • Maintain high standards of laboratory practice, including adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control protocols.
    • Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
    • Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
  • Research and Development:

    • Participate in the development and validation of new diagnostic tests and methodologies.
    • Stay updated with the latest advancements in microbiology and incorporate relevant techniques into laboratory practice.
    • Contribute to research projects and clinical trials as needed.
  • Data Management and Reporting:

    • Accurately record and manage laboratory data using laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on laboratory findings.
    • Collaborate with medical staff to discuss results and provide expert microbiological advice.
  • Infection Control and Prevention:

    • Assist in monitoring and controlling the spread of infectious diseases within healthcare settings.
    • Provide input and support for infection control policies and procedures.
    • Educate healthcare staff on best practices for infection prevention.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science, Microbiology, or a related field required.
    • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or equivalent certification.
    • Master’s Degree in Microbiology or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
    • Experience with molecular diagnostic techniques (e.g., PCR) is highly desirable.
  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Proficient in a wide range of microbiological techniques and laboratory procedures.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
    • Proficient in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other relevant software.
